1. Meeting a foreigner

You must be Changmin. Hi, my name is Katherine.

I've been looking forward to meet you.

Oh, hi. I'm Changmin. Nice to meet you.

Katherine. But please call me Kathy.

OK, Kathy. You can call me Changmin.

Changmin, you said you're from Korea, right?

Where in Korea are you from?

I'm from Busan. It's the second largest city in Korea.

When did you come to the state?

I just got here a month ago.

Really? Wow, but your English is so good.

Thank you. How long have you been studying at Columbia, Kathy?

This is my second year. I'm a sophomore.

And what do you study?

I study philosophy.

Are you from New York?

Yes, I'm from Long Island. But, I'm originally from England.

How about your family. Where do they live?

I'm from big family, and they all live in England.

 

3. Studying Abroad

Susie! Hi! Long time no see! How have you been?

I've been good. How about you?

Fine. Did you enjoy yourself during the summer holidays?

Yeah, I just came back from Venezuela. Are you with someone right now?

Changmin, I'd like you to meet my best friend Susie.

She's an exchange student from Venezuela.

I usually stay awake until 2 A.M.
